#SoftHeartSessions - Create your near year - Day 18
Welcome to Day 18 of Create your new year, a series of #SoftHeartSessions daily journal prompts made to guide you through your next stage of growth. You can find the whole series here, or go back and start from Day 1.) Remember that if you miss a day, that's okay -- we are all human after all, and the best thing we can do is expect mistakes, learn from them, and move on 💜
Now, find yourself 15 minutes and some space to write or record yourself as you work through today's prompt. You'll also want a little extra time to do your actual creating today 😘 But don't overthink it, it can be something small!
Alright, so what is an elevator pitch and why do you want one? The name is based on the idea that this is how you would pitch your idea if you were on an elevator with someone. How could you tell them what you're up to while you ride between floors? How do you condense the core of your idea into that short span of time?
Whether or not you will ever be riding an elevator with someone and need to share your story, the practice of condensing your idea into a 30 second pitch will help you really focus down to the core of your idea, which will help you hone your vision and define what you're Really trying to do. This in turn will help you focus on what you're trying to achieve, so you can turn it into reality.
Your elevator pitch should take 30-60 seconds to deliver and should introduce you and the project you're building in a way that engages your listener, so understand what you're doing and want to learn more. You can use your journaling time today to write out some examples and hone in your thoughts on this.
This article has some useful tips on how to craft a pitch as well as some examples you can check out to get a feel for what it might sound like.
The one I might use right now, especially as I think about the new clay project I'm work on, is something like this: "I'm a queer artist and activist working across multiple mediums using a mix of bright colors and text to cultivate community, confidence, and creativity in caring humans. I believe that words have power, and we can use them to help us shape a more caring world. Most recently, I came out with a collection of clay jewelry full of bright statement pieces with messages embossed on them to spark care and conversation."
Here is another resource that has some videos you might find helpful. It's geared toward artists, but is relevant for anyone!

Leave a comment if you have any thoughts you'd like to share about what your explore with today's prompt. I would love to hear your elevator pitch. (And sharing it is part of what you'll want to practice, so that you can confidently tell other folks what you're up to and speak it into existence!)
If you'd like to work through these prompts in a more social space, you can join the Soft Heart Society Discord group here. The Soft Heart Society is an open group I run for caring creatives, and within it we have a section for folks participating in Soft Heart Sessions, so you can share about any feelings the prompts have brought up for you and have folks who have also worked through them to chat with. You're welcome any time 💖
And if you've landed on this page but you aren't signed up to receive the whole series of daily journal prompt ideas directly to your email, sign up here, so you can get each thoughtful prompt emailed directly to you and won't miss any days 💜 When you sign up, the prompts will start from Day 1, so you're able to start your three week session fresh and build from the beginning 📃

Thank you for being here 👋 I'm an immigrant from the US, now at home in Barcelona, Spain.
I write, make art, and create spaces for us to to share thoughts, feelings, & opportunities to explore how to create the world we want to live in. Being human is hard, but we can make it easier for each other. I believe in us. 💜
